Early 19th century
Of wide, oval form, carved in relief with a wild boar sleeping among Autumn plants, the design continued on the reverse and the interior with a fitted compartment, unsigned. 7.6cm (3in).

    Provenance: Carlo Monzino collection, sold at Sotheby's London, 21st June 1995, lot 476.

    The carving of the boar shows affinities with the work of netsuke makers from Kyoto working at the end of the 18th and into the first half of the 19th century.
