A fine ebony netsuke of an ox and calf
By Tanaka Minko (1735-1816), Tsu, late 18th/early 19th century
The ox recumbent, its body twisted and its head turned back to the left as it licks the back of its calf which lies with its head raised, their legs drawn in for compactness beneath, one forming the himotoshi, signed Minko with kao.
