PRESENTATION COPY, IN ORIGINAL FORTNIGHTLY PARTS, each part (except part 1) neatly inscribed, "With the publishers Compliments" on the front wrapper. Part 1 is marked in pencil "Proofs." Artists include David Roberts, George Cattermole, Samuel Prout, John Constable, Charles Landseer, and many others. An edition of the landscape illustrations to Scott's works had already appeared, but this is the first to collect the female portraits. As the parts were issued, the proportion of female portraits to landscapes increased.
