An exceptional Birmingham or South Staffordshire enamel leopard bonbonnière with a double lid, circa 1760-65
Modelled as the head of a leopard, carefully painted with spots onto a shaded yellow ground, with curly whiskers and finely painted facial features, its mouth open to reveal pointed teeth, the hinged outer lid painted with a leopard and a huntsman with a bow and arrow before an obelisk, the secret inner lid painted with a lady revealing her legs as she steps over a rustic gate, 7.4cm long, lid 6.6cm. wide (fine cracks and some restoration)
