Footnotes

  • "My work bridges my fantasies, experiences and realities. I believe the power of an artist lies in creating worlds and taking the viewer into those worlds with you."

Ahimbisibwe is a maverick in the Ugandan Art scene. Constantly pushing and exploring every material he discovers, Ahimbisibwe plays with the space between sculpture and painting. Am Solo depicts a solitary figure, silent, on top of a collage mountain. The thick, metallic sky covers the dream-like scene leaving us to question whether our character looks down and contemplates a blissful and inviting or cold and alienating industrialised landscape.

Ahimbisibwe is proving crucial to the ongoing development of the Ugandan art scene. This year he founded the Arts cafe, Fasfas, a dynamic hang out and collaborative hub in the bustling area of Bugolobi, Kampala. Fulfilling a desire to expand horizons and bring inspiration back to Uganda, Ahimbisibwe has exhibited internationally, including Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, Germany, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Bulgaria, Belgium and Australia.
