The Los Angeles Examiner Cup for the Second Annual Endurance Run Around 'The Kite', June 29th-30th 1906,
hallmarked to the underside Sterling Silver #470A 58oz three handled trophy by Reed & Barton, MA, awarded by the 'Los Angeles Automobile Dealers Association' and presented by William Randolph Hearst for the 24 hour endurance race which ran in a loop through a number of Southern Californian towns, 13 inches high, decorated with ornate floral designs and in fine original condition.

Footnotes

  • The name 'Kite' is to stem from the name given to a popular tourist route on the Sante Fe railroad loop which became popular around the turn of the century. It in turn had been dubbed the 'Kite' due to its figure-eight layout which boasted 'no scene twice seen'.
