1967 Fiat 850 Spider
Chassis no. 0015515 0721809
Introduced in 1964, the FIAT 850 would prove an immense success for the Italian firm, with over 1.75 million sold by the time production ceased in 1972. A unitary construction design powered by a 843cc four-cylinder water-cooled engine, the 850 demonstrated that a rear-engined saloon really could be made to handle. Coupé and Bertone-built Spider versions were introduced in 1965 boasting more powerful engines and disc front brakes. With these two models FIAT reintroduced the circular, laurel-surrounded badge used on its competition cars of the 1920s.
Sold new in France and first registered on 19th May 1967, this FIAT 850 Spider is known to have spent most (if not all) of its life in the south of France close to the Mediterranean and the Spanish border. The car was acquired by the current owner in May 2005 and for the last five years has been kept garaged. The body and motor were completely restored/renovated in 1999/2000 and there are related bills for 42,000FFr (€6,400) and many photos available. While in the current ownership the battery has been replaced (still under guarantee); inertia reel seat belts fitted; the braking system overhauled (new master cylinder); a new windscreen fitted; the side window winding mechanisms renewed and an 'Econogreen' unleaded fuel conversion adopted. Finished in metallic grey with red interior, the car currently displays a total of 99,803 kilometres on the odometer and is described by the vendor as in generally good condition - hood included. A perfect companion for the summer months, this charming FIAT 850 Spider comes complete with its original tool kit, handbook and sales literature, French Carte Grise normale and Contrôle Technique valid until 02/06/2011.
