  • Exhibited:
San Francisco, California, Modernism, May 3, 2000

The offered lot was painted in Inverness, California.

With her artistic genes and exposure to and interest in literature and art, it is little wonder that Olga Andreyeva Carlisle both studied and practised painting and other artistic media. She was taught and mentored by significant authorities and artists, including Louis Schanker at Bard College in 1949, Earl Loran at the University of California at Berkeley in 1950 and Robert Motherwell at Hunter College in the early 1950s.

Andreyeva Carlisle exhibited twice in Paris at Galerie Katya Granoff (Quai de Conti, Paris), first in January 1965 and again, a few years later. In the 1960s, she exhibited at the Washington Connecticut Art Association, and in the 1980s with Jan Halloway in San Francisco. She had two shows at Modernism: Gallery in San Francisco in 1999 and 2000 (when the offered lot was exhibited) and a show at Marin County Depot Mill Valley, circa 2003. Her work is in the collections of William Styron, Arthur Miller, Frederic March, Matts Engstrom (California), Jody Ireland (California) and numerous Russian emigres.
