A large painted pottery model of a rider on a camel
Tang dynasty
The separately molded rider wearing a Central Asian costume of a conical cap and open jacket, seated on a padded saddle blanket to the front of a bed roll and canteens while his braying camel mount raises its head to the left and stands at momentary rest with its four feet planted on the ground, the textures of its fur indicated by a series of incised lines around the front of the neck and stippled indentations on the back that reappear in the rider's beard and the lining to his coat, the surfaces showing remains of gesso and colored pigments; later wood stand.
