International Flower Show Gold Medal
Diameter: 1.5 inches, weight: 38.4 grams. Each year professional landscapers, florists, and horticultural and educational organizations create full-scale gardens and floral displays that delight visitors to the International Flower Show. These skilled designers compete for many awards, including the coveted "Best in Show" in their respective categories. This "Best in Show" award was accompanied by a gold medal, as is offered in this lot. Many of these exhibitors spent decades perfecting their craft, which often includes forcing a great variety of plants into bloom in time for the show. Exhibitors spend an average of 18 months preparing their displays. With only one week to show off their talents, each company or organization must pull out all stops to be considered the very best.
Struck in 18k gold with a matte finish and a plain edge, similar in surface appearance to the previously offered lot. The obverse features INTERNATIONAL FLOWER SHOW circling the outer border with a standing female figure and gazebo at the center. She is scattering flower petals from a large basket she carries in her left hand. The reverse is inscribed: AWARDED TO A.W. MONTGOMERY FOR NEW ROSE "TALISMAN" MARCH 19.24.1928. The inscription is surrounded by a ribbon-wrapped ornate wreath. All details are struck in high relief and the medal has been carefully preserved over the years. Uncirculated
