1884-CC $20 VF30 PCGS
Rich reddish- gold toning on both sides. A pleasing looking coin whose surfaces are smooth, satiny, and free of most appreciable marks, save for a surface gouge at the top of the reverse. A first-rate example in its assigned grade. In 1884, the Carson City Mint reached a creditable level of gold coinage for the first time producing $1.8 million in face value, the fourth highest total between 1870 and 1889. The estimated survival rate for 1884-CC double eagles is consistent with the two preceding years, and because of the higher original mintage (81,139 pieces), it is one of the most sought after affordable "CC" double eagle from the 1880s. Housed in an early green label holder. (PCGS 9001)
