Three Butterfly Mounts
Three Butterfly Mounts
Various identified and un-identified species
Mexico, Honduras, Swiss Alps, Brazil, Australia, New Guinea, Columbia, Germany, Bolivia, Haiti, Saxony, Russia, North Africa, United States

As the middle class of the Victorian era grew, a great interest in natural history items of all kinds surfaced. Not only did these items serve as inspiration for research but they also provided a form of entertainment. Butterfly mounts, like the present Victorian-style, likely would have been a curiosity to be gazed upon by guests in a parlor setting. They would be equally at home today as library or office décor. Three frames hold 165 butterflies, 123 with identification, each in its own separate box with glass lid. Newspapers behind the frames indicate that they were last framed in the 1960's.
Frames Measure 27 x 29.5in; 33 x 31in; and 26 x 23in (3)
Sold for US$ 3,125 inc. premium
