Two Stone Meteorite Spheres Internal Structure of NWA 869 and a Smaller Unknown Meteorite Revealed
NWA 869 fragmental breccia
Sahara Desert, Algeria
The larger sphere is an example of NWA 869the 869th meteorite to be classified following its recovery in the Northwest African grid of the Sahara Desert. The smaller sphere is from a meteorite that was found in the same vicinity and was believed to be NWA 869, but it may be something more special. Given the relatively large amount of NWA 869 recovered, some of these meteorites were fashioned into spheressomething that would never occur if the amount of material were limited or scientifically exotic. With an abundant dappling of metalflake, a beautiful variegated matrix of cream to chocolate is plainly evident in the larger sphere. The cocoa matrix of the smaller sphere is loaded with chondrulesdiagnostic in the identification of meteorites.
