Juvenile Dinosaur Skull Dome
Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis
Late Cretaceous
Hell Creek Formation, Harding County, South Dakota
Small skull domes such as this juvenile Pachycephalosaurus specimen are quite rare. Known only from a single skull and a few (characteristically thick) skull roofs, Pachycephalosaurus was one of the last non-avian dinosaurs in existence before the K-T extinction event. Though the thickness of the skull was initially thought to have been used in intraspecies combat, this theory has recently been challenged. In the present skull dome specimen, deep grooves are visually evident. This unique piece is a collector's treasure. Mounted on a custom base.
