Fifty-one million years after the dinosaurs became extinct, Carcharocles megalodon, the largest carnivorous fish known, inhabited the Earth's seas. 1.6 – 25 million years old, the cause of its extinction is unknown. Like today's Carcharodon carcharias,(Great White Shark), megalodon trolled the coastal marine waters to satisfy its enormous appetite, feeding on whales and other prey. Larger and thicker than the Great White's teeth, megalodon's were more finely serrated.
