Bundenbach Starfish
Furcaster palaeozoicus
Devonian, Hunsruck Shale, Germany
This beautiful starfish, a full four inches in size, comes from a world famous fossil site in Germany. Fine detail is preserved by sparkling, fine golden pyrite. The soft parts of the animal are seen in a remarkable three-dimensional display. This golden starfish is framed by a wondrous deep black Devonian slate. The Bundenbach site is no longer available for collecting, so specimens are scarce. These "dancing starfish" are some of nature's finest art conceived 390 million years ago.
