Footnotes

  • Bort à Gourdon is apparently unrecorded, thus it is more likely he was the retailer of the watch rather than the maker. It is unfortunate that the maker remains unknown as the watch has a unusual movement transitional between the traditional full plate and pillar design and Breguet's calibre à ponts, The movement has a free standing going barrel and balance cock screwed to the front plate. Rather that individual bridges, a single small shaped bridge also screwed to the front plate supports the train. The layout is similar to the arrangement employed by A.-L. Breguet in his early watches repeating à la Lèpine. See, for example, George Daniels, The Art of Breguet (1975), figs. 32 & 33.
