A George II mahogany half hour striking bracket clock
John Pittman, London, second quarter 18th century
The inverted bell top case with later handle and lacking moldings, raised on later brass bracket feet, the 7 ½ inch arched brass dial with engraved wheat ear border, date ring and strike / silent lever above a formerly silvered roman chapter ring with fleur de lis half hour markers and lozenge half quarter marks, mock pendulum aperture and signature cartouche in the matted center, later blued hands, twin fusee movement with gut lines (striking line detached), five knopped and ringed pillars, verge escapement with knife edge suspension, rack striking the hours and half hours on bell, back plate engraved with leafy scrolls and flowerheads, enclosing signature cartouche, with similarly engraved heart shaped back cock. 20 ½ in high
