Footnotes

  • Please refer to the note for lot 139.

Constant Girard designed a Tourbillon with three gold bridges in the mid 1860's for which he won a medal in the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition. Only about twenty examples of this proprietary design were manufactured. The last first generation triple-bridge tourbillon was made in 1911.

In 1981 Girard-Perregaux re introduced the movement for a limited edition of twenty pocket watches. Ten years later, to celebrate their two hundredth anniversary, Girard-Perregaux launched a wristwatch with a miniaturized version in which the position of the triple bridge tourbillon had to be shifted from the back of the watch to the front. Production is limited to a few examples each year.

The present lot was made in a limited edition in a case reminiscent of the work of the manufacture in 1945.
