Footnotes

  • The Black dial automatic Autavia is named after the British racing driver Derek Bell, who had received the watch while driving for the film "Le Mans".

In 1972 Heuer decided to go for a large promotion in the USA together with cigarette brand Viceroy. After buying a pack of Viceroys you could send in a coupon and receive a Heuer Autavia for one third of the retail price. The Viceroy Autavia used a Tachymeter bezel instead of a MH bezel calibrated in minutes and hours.

A similar watch with MH bezel from the Haslinger Collection of Heuer Watches was sold in Bonhams' London rooms, December 15, 2010, lot 39.

The present lot is new old stock. It is offered with its original box, tag, and sticker.
