Manuscript album in various hands, 221 pp recto and verso, folio, n.p., January 1, 1864 to January 1, 1865, being the clothing ledger for companies A, E, and F of the 26th Massachussets Volunteers, with three sheets of period military prices lists laid down to premliminary leaves, some toning and thumbing throughout, staining from adhesive to prelims, entire volume rebound in modern calf preserving original labels to upper cover and spine.
The 26th Massachussets Volunteer Infantry served in Louisiana for most of the war. In this ledger, supplies are carefully listed and priced against a soldier's clothing and equipage allowance; the document also records where regimental members have died, deserted, or been discharged. Most pages are witnessed by Capt. James Troy.
