Included with this lot is a letter from the artist identifying the location and subject of this painting.
Wilrijck is a village on the outskirts of Antwerp, a town that would be important to Coburn. There he studied under Abrecht de Vrient and he would meet and marry Malvina Schieppers, a respected painter herself. They would spend the next twenty years in the village, sharing a studio together returning to Canada periodically for visits.
