Camillo Pacetti (Italian, 1785-1826)

Modeled as the Sun God gazing left, inscribed C. PACETTI ROM.PROFE.DI.SCULTURA.NELL.ACCADEMIA.DI.MILANO.Fe.MDCCCXV, on turned socle.

Footnotes

  • As a youth, Camillo Pacetti studied at the Accademia di San Luca. From 1787-88, Pacetti worked for Josiah Wedgwood in Rome, under the supervision of John Flaxman, modeling six panels illustrating the life of Achilles. In 1804, on Antonio Canova's recommendation, Pacetti was offered the role of chair of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. A monument depicting the artist stands in the Palazzo di Brera a Milano.
