Attributed to Horace Dimick, the hard wood haft with silver banding, silver end cap and bone smoking tip, holding a nickel-plated hand-forged head, marked by stippling and the engraved head of a buffalo on one side, a star on the reverse.

  • Dimick was a respected manufacturer of weapons out of St. Louis in the mid-19th century. His workshop was known for producing a variety of high-quality rifles, pistols, knives and tomahawks. The latter were used as presentations to Prairie region Indian leaders during the signing of treaties and trade negotiations.
