Footnotes

  • Cf:
Antes, Horst, 1981, p. 138, ill. 337: the doll pictured, like the current lot, probably dates to the second quarter of the 20th century and is apparently a revival carving of a doll type that was no longer made at Hopi by the 1880s. The resemblance is such that the two dolls may have well been made by the same anonymous carver.
