A Civil War era non-regulation foot officer's sword
Slightly curved 32 1/2 inch fullered blade with 10 inch panel etched with conventional florals; one side with US, the other with spread eagle over E Pluribus Unum riband. Ricasso with unidentified Solingen maker's mark in the form of a barrel containing tools and a spray of wheat. Steel hilt in the British 1822 style, the guard with engraved scrollwork framing a Federal eagle and US. Grey shagreen and copper wire-wrapped grip. Iron two-ring scabbard.
Condition: Blade excellent and retaining most original polish. Hilt with bright steel showing minor spotting. Grip wire partially loose. Scabbard with dark patina and three light dents.
