A Civil War era non-regulation foot officer/s sword retailed by Palmers & Bacheladers of Boston
Slightly curved 31 inch blade with 20 inch panel etched and engraved with floriate scrollwork; one side with Federal eagle and stand Stars & Stripes, the other with US and panoply of arms with Federal shield; spine lightly etched Palmers & Bachelders Boston. German silver hilt of British pattern 1822/45 form, the guard with circular panel of Federal eagle. grey shagreen and copper wire-wrapped grip. Retaining part of the sword knot. German silver two-ring scabbard.
Condition: Fine blade showing minor spotting. Grip with slight wear. Scabbard with two small dents and one deep dent at drag.
