An American eagle pommel mounted infantry officer's saber
circa 1805-15
Fine curved 33 1/2 inch clip point blade with full-length double fullers and 11 inch blued and gilt panel engraved with conventional florals and panoplies. Silvered brass stirrup hilt, the guard with small beaded languets and scrolled quillon finial; fluted ferrule with roped center band; Ketland style eaglehead pommel. One-piece bone grip with checkered panels at the sides. Brass two-ring scabbard, the mounts molded with shells and beaded borders.
Condition: Blade with scattered patches of spotting/minor pitting and retaining most of it's bright blued and gilt decoration. Hilt with traces of silver remaining. Grip with chipping below the pommel and at the spine. Scabbard with dark patina and generoua traces of silver plating.
