Republic period
Including one of green jadeite and one of gray nephrite, both with fu lion finials; one of plain rectangular ivory; one of metal with an ingenious turtle-form finial whose shell conceals a smaller hidden seal; one of yellow soapstone with an incised mountain landscape to the sides; and one of chicken-blood stone carved with two chilong in raised relief to the sides, the base uncarved; the sides of the ivory and the metal seals incised 'Zhuang Banshi kan' (incised by Zhuang Banshi).   • Zhuang Zhigang (1908-1956), (artistic name: Banshi) along with Qi Baishi and Chen Shushi were renowned stone carvers in warlord-ruled Beijing during the early years of the Republic. Together they were known as the 'Three Stones of Old Beijing' (Gu Yan San Shi).
