A fine pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted and paint decorated mahogany secrétaires à abattant
fourth quarter 19th century
Each with rectangular top above a stepped frieze applied with leaf tip, egg-and-dart and bead-and-reel bandings above a hinged fall front, one with center panel painted with putti frolicking on a dolphin riding the crest of a wave, the second with panel painted with festive putti reclining on billous clouds indulging in grapes, both panels flanked by lion masks holding fruited pendants and opening to reveal a shelved interior over a pair of foliate cast paneled drawers and a velvet lined writing inset above a shaped foliate paneled frieze centered by a medallion raised on stop fluted tapering legs ending on toupie feet and joined by shaped stretchers, overall decorated with medallions of putti and Venus.
