Lauren Bacall, acclaimed actress of stage and screen, has always been drawn to jewelry that embodies imagination, ingenuity and wit. She appreciated, above all, design. This auction includes several of her favorite pieces.

Ms. Bacall always believed in going to the source. She purchased the green enamel melon-shaped eighteen karat gold compact at Bulgari (lot 93) in Rome in the late 1960s. Later, in Paris, she acquired the Boivin flexible ruby and diamond "passementerie" ring (lot 69). Over the years, she came to know Jean Schlumberger. Ms. Bacall appreciated his ingenuity and unique designs, acquiring several pieces in Paris, including a fine pair of coral, diamond and gold earrings (lot 99).
