Having a band of diagonal lenticular beading above a band of gadrooning to base, cast beading to S-shaped handle with heel terminal, possibly by William Hux (w.1700-1729), (OP 2498, PS 4935), height 12.5cm

    A similar mug in the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection, illustrated, A. North, Pewter at the Victoria and Albert Museum , p.88, fig.88 (Yeates Bequest). Again, a direct comparison can be made regarding the diagonal gadroon and lenticular decoration.

    A survey of gadrooned mugs, conducted by Michael Boorer in 1984, lists this lot as the only other known curved example apart from the aforementioned V&A and Shemmell examples. A further example illustrated, the Journal of the Pewter Society, Vol. 11, No. 1, Spring 1997, pp. 42-43, bearing touchmark of Jonathan Cotton I (w.1704-1750).
