The rim with narrow triple reeded border stamped with the hallmarks of WH, (w.1675-1700), (PS 5441), (MPM 5694b), ownership initials ME stamped to rim, for Earl of Mount Edgcumbe of Cotehele, Cornwall, diameter 9¾in, rim 1¾in, (36%)


  • Provenance: Cotehele House, Cornwall. Probably originally part of a garnish, consisting of one charger and twenty plates, supplied to The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, around 1675. Sotheby's House Sale, 1st June 1956, lot 29. The Kenneth Bradshaw Collection, Sotheby's, 13 June 1977, lot 45.

    Literature: Ronald F Michaelis, The Antique Collector, Early Stuart Pewter from Cotehele Cornwall, February 1959, pp.31-34. The author refers to Cotehele as the most important Tudor House in England.
