Touchmark in base of Joseph Slow (w.1702-?), (OP 4321, PS 8575), the drum with single fillet, inscribed George Morfit at ye Swan an 2 Nacks Clare Street, Clare Market, S-curve handle with ball terminal, ownership triad GMM, crowned WR mark to collar, height 16cm.

    A note with this lot reads, Captain Sutherland Graeme, who is possibly our greatest authority on old London, states that Clare Market lay at the back of the Law Courts in the Strand, roughly between the Courts and Lincoln's Inn Fields; Clare Street formed one side of it.
