  • The London photographers Maull & Polybank had studios in Gracechurch Street and Piccadilly. They began trading in 1854 and continued under this name until 1865 after which it became known as Maull & Co. It produced Photographic Portraits of Living Contemporaries, 1856-1858, which comprised 40 individual portraits issued to subscribers over a period of 41 months. The present photograph is one of the series.
