  • Coburn personally supervised the creation of his photogravures on his own copper plate press. De Morgan was very pleased with the portrait, calling it a wonderful achievement of photography: 'It is by far the most convincing portrait to send to strangers if such ask for one' (A.L. Coburn's Men of Mark: Pioneers of ModernismA, p. 71).
