PEPYS, SAMUEL (1633-1703, diarist and book collector, Secretary of the Admiralty)
LETTER SIGNED ('SPepys'), also signed by William Penn, father of the founder of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Middleton, Principal Officers of the Navy Board, to the Clerk of the Cheque and Store-keeper of his Majesty's yard at Chatham, stating that the surveyor wishes, with the advice of Mr Ruffhead, the King's anchorsmith at Chatham, to make good and repair several anchors now lying in the yard 'to make them very good & fitt for his Ma[jes]t[ie]s service' and requiring him to deliver the broken anchors to Mr Ruffhead, taking an account of the weight and defects of them, and to receive them back when they are repaired, taking an account of what he has done to each and of the weight of each, 1 page, folio, slight browning and two small repairs on outer edge, the Navy Office, 29 October 1668
