SELF-PORTRAIT, caricature, pen and ink drawing, showing himself kneeling and beseeching with upraised arms a pair of feet at the top of the page, under which he has written 'Piedi di Sigr Asquarciuli Bartolomeo' ['Signor Asquarciuli Bartolomeo's feet'] and below the drawing 'Il Sigr Orduardo Lear pregando il Sgr Bartolomeo Asquarciuli per il suo Conto del Banco' ['Signor Edward Lear begging Signor Bartolomeo Asquarciuli for his Bank Account'], with pencil marks probably from an earlier sketch and, under the mount, part of Lear's signature on the remains of the conjugate leaf, 1 page, octavo, complete in itself though possibly removed from a letter to which it may have been attached, framed and glazed, size of image 7 x 4½ inches (18 x 11 cm), overall size 13½ x 10¾ inches (35 x 28 cm), no place [but Italy], no date
