DICKENS, CHARLES. 1812-1870.
Autograph Letter Signed ("Charles Dickens"), 1 p, 8vo, Kent, September 7, 1859, on Gads Hill Place stationery, to T.H. Maguire, apologizing for having missed an art opening, light creasing, otherwise fine, matted and framed.
Maguire was an artist and engraver who had executed a portrait of Dickens in 1849. After missing Maguire's opening, Dickens writes: "I hope, however, that I may still see it in the publisher's hands. The subject is a noble one."
