A Japanese grey sandstone stele

carved with a figure of Buddha Amitabha seated in dhyanasansa with arms folded in dhyanamudra, a contemplative expression with gentle smile and wearing a loose robe, on his right a figure of the monk Kobo Daishi (弘法大師) depicted holding his dorje and rosary, both are seated beneath an overhanging gable, raised on a pedestal base carved with scrolling leaf motifs, 57cm wide 22cm deep 76cm high
