Early Qing dynasty
Exquisitely carved in the form of a luohan seated on a flat woven straw mat with his legs crossed beneath him, intricately carved with focused expression naturalistically rendered, adorned in a long flowing robe draped over his shoulders, the sleeves concealing his hands, depicted formally presenting five sutra in their brocade binder, intricately etched at the hem with scrolling foliate motifs against a wave ground, the stone of an attractive creamy-white with patches of mottled brown and russet, the reverse signed with the two-character signature 'yuxuan' in 'caoshu' between the shoulders.

    羅漢頭小面方,雙目與嘴唇合上,袈裟帶錦地蓮花紋花邊,雙手舉著書經作呈上之態,表現端莊典雅。雕刻家巧妙地利用石中梅花紅的色彩作經書,跟經書後人物衣服顏色對比,帶出虛實輕重的視覺效果,仔細可見衣褶的用刀多為斜面深鑲,使造形立體自然。
