Footnotes

  • The Mk1 – Jaguar's first unitary construction saloon - was replaced in October 1959 by the closely related, albeit extensively revised, Mk2. The latter offered better all-round visibility courtesy of larger windows, while the Mk1's rear wheel spats disappeared and the rear track was widened, which improved both roll-resistance and stability. The dashboard was redesigned with the speedometer and rev counter relocated in front of the driver, the six toggle switches and four minor gauges being set across the centre. Independent front suspension was by wishbone and coil springs, with a leaf-sprung live axle at the rear. This, combined with superior Dunlop disc brakes all round and a choice of 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8-litre XK engines, provided the discerning, enthusiast driver with one of the finest sports saloons available in the 1960s. In its ultimate, 3.8-litre, overdrive-equipped form, the Mk2 could reach 125mph with 60mph coming up in 8.5 seconds, impressive figures for a saloon of its size even by today's standards.
Representing the Jaguar Mk2 in its ultimate, overdrive-equipped, 3.8-litre configuration, this example is believed to have been in single family ownership from new, and certainly has been since 1963. Repainted from Navy Blue to red in 1976, it has been off the road in dry storage since 1989 and is offered for restoration. We are advised that the engine has been changed for a lower-mileage unit and that a spare engine and gearbox (believed original) are included in the sale. The car comes complete with Swansea V5 document for the cherished registration '85 HK' and is sold strictly as viewed. No reserve.

20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
