c.1958 Ariel 998cc Square Four 4G Mk2 Special
Registration no. DJP 457
Frame no. APR9599
Engine no. CNML1531
Produced in its ultimate Mk2 form from 1953 to 1959, the Ariel Square Four was never made available with swinging-arm rear suspension, though several conversions and hybrids have been made over the years, that offered here being one such. 'DJP 457' incorporates a 4G Mk2 engine and an Ariel Huntmaster frame, modified by ex-Ariel employee and marque specialist, Graham Horne. Fully restored between 2001 and 2009, the machine has covered approximately 400 miles since completion and is described by the private vendor as in 'near concours' condition, affording the prospect of much better handling and roadholding than the plunger-framed original. Noteworthy features include a powder-coated frame, 'Glamour Red' paintwork and numerous stainless steel fittings. The machine is offered with all restoration invoices, old-style logbook, Ariel OC dating certificate, MoT/tax to April 2012 and Swansea V5C.
- The frame number of this machine is APR6392 and not APR9599 as stated in the catalogue.
