1935 Cyc-Auto 98cc Autocycle
Frame no. 71689
Engine no. 4/106
Designed by a Mr Wallington Butt and built in West London, the Cyc-Auto of 1934 was the first of the pre-war autocycles and thus a forerunner of the post-war moped. The Cyc-Auto's 98cc two-stroke engine was mounted in a conventional bicycle frame, immediately ahead of the bottom bracket, and fed with fuel from a cylindrical tank on the rear carrier. This engine was unusual in that its crankshaft ran fore-and-aft rather than transversely, drive being taken via a worm and pinion to the bottom bracket and thence by chain to the rear wheel. An open-frame lady's model and various designs of sidecar were soon added to the range. Offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed, this unregistered Cyc-Auto comes with spare parts list, instruction book and various dating documents issued by The Autocycle Register in February 1998 to a Mr M J Cheesman of Hedge End, Southampton. No reserve.
