• Based on the three-door Sierra bodyshell, the RS Cosworth combined the standard 1,993cc cylinder block with a twin-camshaft, 16-valve cylinder head and Garrett AiResearch turbocharger. Even in road trim the Cosworth produced a staggering 204bhp, its Weber-Marelli engine management system ensuring that the resulting stupendous performance was delivered with minimal turbo lag. Needless to say, the standard underpinnings were comprehensively up-rated to cope. The hatchback version ceased production in 1986 and was replaced in 1988 by the more refined Sapphire RS Cosworth four-door saloon.
  'J558 PDE' was first registered in September 1991 and fully maintained by Ford main dealer Dragon Motors (Haverfordwest) Ltd until the first owner's death, whereupon his family placed the car in storage. It remained there until 2009 and was purchased by the current vendor in October 2010, since when servicing has been entrusted to recognised specialists. The car has covered approximately 53,800 miles from new and is said to be in superb condition. It retains the original Ford radio cassette player, tool kit, all instruction manuals and the service booklet, and is equipped with the manually operated sunroof. Finished in white with blue leather interior, this well documented Sapphire Cosworth is offered with extensive service history, MoT to March 2012, Swansea V5 document and a quantity of MoT certificates verifying the recorded mileage.
