Parisian Roof Tops is a striking depiction of a sunset over the Paris skyline. The present lot depicts the view from the artist's studio in which he lived from 1939 onwards following his move from Istanbul. Although not a common subject matter another work depicting the same scene has appeared at auction in the recent past.
An evocative orange sky stretches serenely across the upper field, casting soft orange and yellow hues over the buildings below. From the artist's viewpoint ones eye is drawn to the lower centre of the field to the bustling street where unidentified figures move about in the last few minutes before dark, the movement suggested by Mualla's short brushstrokes contrasting with the stillness in the sky above.
