LINCOLN, ABRAHAM. 1809-1865.
Autograph Note Signed ("A. Lincoln"), 1 p, on 3 1/4 by 2 inch card, Washington, August 15, 1862, card affixed with ribbon and seal to note on Quarter-Master General's Office letterhead instructing all quarter masters to "respect the request of the President on the card attached," small card with some offset from wax seal and mild toning overall, larger leaf creased, moderately toned, and with some smudging to ink.
In full: "Quarter Master General, please give the bearer, Mr. Foster, a pass to Newbern [sic] N.C. / Aug. 15, 1862 / A. Lincoln." New Bern had been captured by Union forces under Ambrose Burnside in March of 1862.
