in natural finish, printed maker's label to interior, OCT. 2002, Made Special [sic] for Mr Eric Clapton, signed Taka, figured maple body with round cutaway and maple binding, spruce top with f-holes, figured maple neck, twenty-four fret ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl side inlays and EC on 12th fret, Brazilian rosewood headstock facing, gold tuners with mother-of-pearl buttons, one single coil pickup, two rotary controls, Brazilian rosewood bridge, ebony tailpiece and clear pickguard; and a black hardshell contour case with black plush lining with handwritten label with various inscriptions including SHIMO 'JAZZ', Custom Made, Gift to E.C., Oct 2002 – Japan, accompanied by a handwritten letter from the maker

  • This archtop guitar named 'Sally' was a gift to Clapton during his November 2003 Tour of Japan from Takahiro Shimo, a Japanese guitar and ukulele maker known for his imaginative designs. Shimo designed and built this guitar with a 15½ inch wide body and lightening shaped f-holes and hand-crafted in its entirety down to the mother-of-pearl truss rod cover and the Perspex® pickguard/knobs, as well as hand-winding the pickup using new-old-stock wire from the 1950s.
