Footnotes

  • This is the second flamenco guitar made by Gerundino Fernandez (1931 – 2006) to come up for sale from Eric Clapton's collection, the first being the 1976 guitar sold at the second Crossroads Guitar Auction at Christie's New York, 24 June, 2004 for $16,730 (Lot 26).

Gerundio Fernandez produced flamenco guitars using traditional Spanish cypress for the back and sides with spruce top, but he also made a smaller quantity of 'black' flamenco guitars with rosewood back and sides. These 'black' guitars, when compared with the more traditional flamenco guitars, produce less percussive treble sounds and are closer in their tonality to classical guitars.
