Footnotes

  • The Elite model, launched in 1983 with its mid-range boost facility, formed the basis of the discussion between Fender's Dan Smith and Eric Clapton in 1985 concerning the development of the Clapton Signature Model.

J.J. Cale, the songwriter and guitarist whose songs After Midnight and Cocaine covered by Clapton in the 1970s, was a major musical influence on Clapton. The two performed together at the first Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas in 2004, and went on to collaborate on an album Road To Escondido, released in 2008 which won Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 50th Grammy Awards® the same year.T his guitar has been generously donated to the auction by J.J. Cale.
